what happened to Winamp 4.................

ya, i never saw a Winamp 4.
reasons are here: http://www.winamp.com/player/faq#10

Debian Etch, ntfs automounted, dictionary, wireless Internet..

now a days i am using my Linux Box to the fullest.
for almost all Computer related works i have to do, be it programming or be it listening songs or watching movies.

distro is Debian Etch.
this is the latest stable version of Debian.

must say a fantastic Operating System.

how i got connected to the Internet?
i am working with a wireless Internet connection.
i do not know the exact device name of the wireless adapter, used on my Linux Box.
i downloaded ipw2200-fw-3.0 and extracted the files to the /lib/firmware directory with the root privileges of course.
a restart and then choose the network i wanted to be on.
that was it, i was connected to the Internet.

dictionary:
i always wanted to have a dictionary on my Linux Box itself.
Google Search.
came across Wordnet.
searched Synaptic Package Manager.
Wordnet, kthesaurus and some more packages were there the names of which i do not remember.
installed them and i got a fantastic dictionary on my Linux Box.

yes i love to type Linux Box.

how i made the ntfs partitions get automounted:

made a directory /mnt/win_d
by using mkdir /mnt/win_d
then:
mount -t ntfs /dev/sda5 /mnt/win_d
worked but did not worked as i wanted it to.
why?
because the drive was mounted but i could not access them from the GUI.
the files were accessible only through the terminal in superuser mode.
so only half work done.
i didnt do anything with the fstab file yet.
so time to edit the fstab file.
added the following line at the end of the file and reboot.
/dev/sda5 /mnt/win_d ntfs defaults,umask=007,gid=46 0 1
done.
the ntfs partitions shows on the desktop and is accessible without being in the superuser mode.
here i get only read access and no write access to the partition.
still i have not tried the ntfs-3g which provides read and write access both.

music and video:
that was not a big problem at all.
VLC is there for almost everything.

accessing Linux ext3 partitions in Windows XP:

downloaded Ext2IFS_1_10c.exe
from http://www.fs-driver.org/download.html.
installed it, and during installation choose a proper drive letter i wanted to assign to the Linux ext3 partition.
that is it.
opened My Computer and the new partition was there.

the vacations are almost over.
and again it is time to welcome my friends back.
i enjoyed the vacations and yes found many new things.
okay, i admit some movies were also there.
and would u believe, i went through some comic books.
made me remember my childhood days when i used to be a fan of Raj Comics.
no new drawings.
i am in no mood to draw.

Linux Directory Structure

The directory structure of Linux/other Unix-like systems is very intimidating for the new user, especially if he/she is migrating from Windows. In Windows, almost all programs install their files (all files) in the directory named: `Program Files.’ Such is not the case in Linux. The directory system categorises all installed files.

life goes on like this..

i thought that i was trodding on the right path.
i thought that i have identified the ppl. correctly.
i thought the persons whom i think are wellwishers are true wellwishers of mine.
but no.
i was completely wrong.
some ppl. whom i identified as good persons, who have got no vitiating tendencies,
are actually not above that worthless jealousy.
they are also like the people whom i do not like right from my heart.
so they are ousted from now on.
i do not want to keep relationship with these type of ppl..
i know ultimately and consequently they will prove themselves as my foes and are dangerous to me.
so i bid Goodbye to all those ppl.
and my sincerest thanks to tem for teaching me a good lesson.
now i know more about human behaviour than before.
THANKS AGAIN.

i wonder will my inbox ever ask for more space?
i love gmail.

njoy.
have fun.
miss u all.

d9

day 9:

so why this post is late by one full day?
actually i thought yesterday
that today there is nothing special so what to post?
but then i realised.

everyday is special in its own.
in fact every moment we live is so special.
we only do not realise its true worth.
if we do something that looks simple in a very special way it will become special.
on the contrary if we do the special things in simple way we make them simple.
so yesterday was replete of special moments.

ya, the day was truly special.
because yesterday came the moments for which i was waiting for a long time.

what did i do yesterday?

the full chapter i was studying for two days was completed.
there were some concepts that were disturbing me.
but now the problems regarding that are a thing of past.

now i feel very relaxed.
now i can venture into new areas.
now i can go ahead.
now i can program.
now i can proceed.
now i can see farther.
now i can ...............
possibilities are limitless.

food:
lunch: North Indian Thali
dinner: Paneer Fried Rice

have fun friends.
miss u all.

Sunday, October 21, 2007

d8

day 8:

as usual i woke up at 05:00 sharp in the morning.
i wanted to study a special thing, for a very long time.
so decided to completed it today.
the whole day was devoted to that.
and still now i have not completed it.
so after typing this post, i am going to read that thing, in its entirety.
it is really interesting.

food:
lunch: North Indian Thali
dinner: Paneer Fried Rice

watched a movie today.

so in these vacations i have watched two movies.
and i dont think that there is any possibility of watching more.

njoy friends.
miss you all...

d7

day 7:

i woke up today at 5:00 AM sharp.
it is sharp because my cellphone sounded at that very time.
and it sounded because i set it to play a nice ringtone at that time.
:-)
newayz, today's morning was foggy to a little extent.
i cud feel the temperature drop.

ENJOYED THE MIRACLE.

as i was very tired yesterday,
i cudnt install those softwares.
so i tried to install them today.
i tried to install through the Internet.
but cudnt do that.
so gone for the next option.
as i have already mentioned i have Debian DVDs,
i installed:

XINE
XMMS
AMAROK
KDE
ENLIGHTENMENT
VLC

from the DVDs.
ya, it worked and it worked like a charm.
only some packages cudnt be installed.
but that did not pose something worth calling a problem.

and this post is being typed from my Linux Box loaded with Ubuntu 7.10 having the code name
Gutsy Gibbon.
still i am not able to chat using Pidgin with my gtalk account.
but i am sure that it will work.

and the animations are mindblowing.
these are the occasions when i miss a better Graphics Card.
all the effects do not work well.
and there are some new fantastic screensavers.
for some screensavers also i miss a decent Graphics Card.

all else is working fine.

so it is 7:06 AM.

food:
lunch: North Indian Thali
dinner: Paneer Butter Masala, Tandoori Roti

its 09:59 sharp.
and i have studied operator overloading today.
found many new things.

i think that i will study C++ tonight.

holidays are coming to an end.
not many days left.
we keep counting days here.

have fun friends.
forget me not.
miss u ppl.
bye.

d6

day 6:

got the Gutsy Gibbon, the new version on Ubuntu Linux.
so excited i am.
wanted to install as soon as possible.
but the problem was that i didnt had a blank media.
so had to wait till 9:30 AM.
got the media.
burnt that .
installation complete.
and Gutsy Gibbon was up and running.
everything working fine.
but cudnt play the songs in MP3 format.
have to download VLC and XINE.
those will be downloaded at night.
and it has both read and write support for NTFS partitions.
that means i can use the whole harddisk from my Linux Box.
and the new thing i found, is it makes the Windows XP account available.
i will try to download:

XMMS
VLC
XINE
MPLAYER
AMAROK
ENLIGHTENMENT

and as i have the Debian DVDs,
i am wondering, that is it possible to install softwares from
those DVDs in Gutsy Gibbon.
i am very optimistic and excited about the possibilities.
till now i have not tried that.
at night this will be tried.

i didnt sleep at the daytime even for a second.
so this is good.
i like that.

food:
breakfast:
a packet of biscuits
and Chuda
lunch:
North Indian Thali
dinner:
Aloo Paratha

so u see i am having almost same food daily.

its night.
and i am going to download the softwares.
whatever happens, i will post here.

njoy vacations friends.
forget me not.
bye.

d5

day 5

it's a fine morning.
but a little cloudy.
this type of weather induces laziness.
listening Himesh's "Vaada Tainu".
makes me recall SOMEONE.
reminiscence.
flashback.
ya, i am reliving the past in my memories for the last 12 minutes.

biscuit packet is finished.

today i woke up at 5:00 AM sharp.
enjoyed the miracle.
ya, the phenomenon of the rising Sun, and
how the darkness is replaced by light is still a miracle for me,
as it used to be when i was a child.
but as i said it is a little cloudy so it was not clear.

today i read many comic books.
all of Bankelal.
after many years, i read a comic book.
i remember those days, when i used to be a big fan of those.
i rarely missed a comic book of Dhruva.
ya, he used to be my favourite Super Hero.

today for the full day,
i was in the room.
studying.
and listening songs.

missing "SWEET HOME".

nothing special today.
so this post is not going to be very long.
food:
lunch:
North Indian Thali
dinner:
Aloo Paratha

i am nostalgic today.
not in a mood to write more.

njoy vacations friends.
bye.

Wednesday, October 17, 2007

special

its 06:07 AM.
i can access the Internet from my Debian Box now.
actually this post is being typed from my Debian Box.
i will post the procedure later.
and now let me listen some of my all time favs. on my Debian Box.
njoy friends.

d4

day 4:

not even my roommates know how i start the day.
i first bid "thank you" to the God Almighty.
then the first thing i do after performing the daily morning rituals,
is to have a spoon of honey.
but today the honey was not there.
so i started the day with an,
hold your jaws,
control your tongue,
"Alpenliebe".

today i did Yoga.
Pranayam for twenty minutes.
then some asanas.
the Yog Nidra.
i learnt Yog Nidra, when i was a child.
and i tell u, it really makes ur mind calm.

i dnt know.
i dnt know.
honestly i dnt know.
frm where this idea came into my mind.
bt it came.
after so many days.
so many months.

I WANTED TO WATCH "Kasautii Zindagii Kay".
pardon me if i have got the spelling wrong.

n i watched two episodes of that.
dated: 09-10-2007 n 10.10.2007.
last time when i watched that,
Mr. Bajaj was shot by Ms. Sampada.
and Mr. Anurag Basu was shot by Ms. Prerna.
bt today i saw that Mr. Anurag was there in the episode.
and that too was going to marry Ms. Prerna.
then there was a twist.
Mr. Bajaj was also alive, although he had lost his memory.
so again Mr. Anurag was not able to marry Ms. Prerna.
that was it.
i must admit that the music of that serial really touches my heart.
and the title song is really awesome.

today the coaching class was going to be conducted at 1:00 PM.
so left at 11:20 AM.
had our lunch.
and went there by an auto.
but from tomorrow there are no classes, at least in this week.

it is 5:42 PM and it is not total dark now.
actually this is the dusk time i think.
i am typing this post.
and planning to study C++.
one or two ppl. are leaving today.

i think that the plans of going to the movie in the theatre will materialize.
i also want to go.
but you know i can't.

perhaps today i will be able to start surfing the Internet from my Linux Box, loaded with Debian.
enjoying the Enlightenment Window manager.

it's 09:04 PM now.
food:
Lunch:
North Indian Thali
Dinner:
Tawa Roti, Paneer Butter Masala

as i said yesterday.
today i kept account of the time i slept in the daytime.
and i found i slept for 18 minutes.
but i must not sleep in the daytime.
it is really necessary.
but noone is here to talk with me.
so i sometime get bored.
but i have so many things to study, so i very quickly get into rhythm.
and there are a lot of songs to listen.

AND NO MOVIES TILL NOW.

i dnt think that i will watch any new movie in the vacations.
bought a packet of cream biscuits, and had a glass of hot milk today.
no fever now.
have stopped taking antibiotics.

njoy friends.
forget me not.
miss u all.

Tuesday, October 16, 2007

d3

day 3:

nothing new today.
same old routine.

NO MOVIES TILL NOW.

i listen a lot of songs these days.
saw the pic. of my niece today.
cute.
loved it.
i wish i cud had her in front of me.
but not all of the wishes can be fulfilled, i know.
she is a lot more active than when i saw her last time.
bhaiyya told me that.
newayz i cud see the pix, that is enough for now.

njoyin Debian.

today i slept in the daytime.
this thing is unusual to me.
i almost never sleep in daytime.
i think i am becoming lazy.
not anymore.
i will keep track of the number of hours i sleep.
also no sleep in the daytime.
only six hours of sleep in a day.
i think that wud be enough for me.

i have not done yoga for the last many days.
tomorrow morning, i am going to do that for half an hour.

holidays are not boring at all.
i along with my friends are learning PL/SQL.
it might be finished when the holidays come to an end.
so no problems.

i visited Orkut today.

my website count is increasing day by day.
but not at that pace at which it should be.

there is a lot of decoration almost everywhere here.
Durga Puja is going on.
yesterday i saw a very big Pandal.

we are thinking abt going to a movie in the theatre someday.
the chances of that is fifty-fifty.
noone is sure abt that.
reason: we dont have that much of money to spend.
i also wanted to go to watch a movie in a theatre.
but as i stated above, not all your wishes can be fulfilled.
let's see wht happens.

food:
lunch: North Indian thali
dinner: Roti, Aloo Gobi

i am sure, that my friends r having a lot of fun at home.
njoy friends.
i miss u all.

Monday, October 15, 2007

d2

day 2:

i love to see the rising sun.
but now a days i wake up late.
i sleep at 2 AM or 3 AM.
so i wake up late.
at 8 AM or 9 AM.
reason: this way i can skip the breakfast.
so i can directly have lunch at 12:30 PM.

today:

woke up at 7:36 AM.
had a packet of biscuits.
my favoutite is Good Day.
decided to clean the cupboard.
not a tough job it was.
but took almost two n a half hours.
newayz, it's done now.
found a lot of worthless things,
that i had accumated for the last six months or so.
i dnt know why we keep things, tht we r never going to use.
washed clothes.
some of them r in real need of Dry Cleaning.

12:30 PM

time to go for lunch.
a North Indian Thali.
nice food.

1:30 PM

wanted to install Debian for a very long time.
well i had three DVDs.
installed it.
the wireless internet connection is not working out of the box.
so i need to do something abt that.
but the better thing is that:
there is a huge number of softwares included on those DVDs.
it didnt ask for the second and third DVD.
so i dnt know what those DVDs contain.
will check at night.
i wanted to try Enlightenment Windows Manager for a very long time.
and this was included on the DVD.
it looks so cool.

3:58 PM

time to go tutorial classes.

9:30 PM

visited Pantaloon showroom.
i was more than Impressed.
fantastic collection.
i really wanted to buy a pair of trousers.
______________________________________________

Roti n Aloo Matar.
ya, this was for dinner today.
liked the Tawa Roti.

removed ntde1ect.com from my friend's computer.
i dnt know wht type of malware it is.
newayz it's gone now.

now typing this post.

will try to complete "Stream Handling" tonight.

it's the D1 friends...................

day 1:

njoy ur vacations friends.
i miss u all......................

i COULD NOT go home.
reasons r numerous.
i dont want to analyse the source of the reasons.
tht hurts me.
all roommates hv left.
everyone asked me "why r u nt going home"?
i didnt had an answer.
i simply did not know the right answer.
sorry friends.

i miss you "my" SWEET HOME..
i miss you "b n w".
i miss you "all".

the winter season is in offing.
yesterday i actually felt the cool breeze.

have i changed?
perhaps a lil bit.
but i hv tried to be within limits.
i like to take risks.
but this is a totally different matter.
i can't jump even after thinking twice.
why?
because the results r undefined.
whtevr will happen, if i jump, will not be beneficial to me.
i conclude like this by heuristics.
the results for these type of things hv been undefined since the time immemorial.
so i will prefer to be on the safer side.
this thing is so strong.
but i hv found the core of tht.
so no problems.

i think i m suffering from fever.
no thermometer so i m nt sure.
bt i m feeling weak.
newayz taking the antibiotics.

many things r there to study.
but today i will study one chapter.
n tht is "stream handling".
the classes r:

ios
ostrem
istream
iostream
ifstream
ofstream
fstream
ostream_withassign
istream_withassign

inheritence is there.
the figure perhaps gives the right inheritance heirarchy.

listening various songs.
had good lunch.
rice, chicken.
installing VistaMizer.
installed.

here almost everyone's machine is affected with virus.
i removed the virus from my machine.
got help from here.
this command really did wonders.

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

also i had to remove autorun.inf files from all the drives.
dinner was "roti and sm vegetable the name of which is unknown to me and half litre milk".
now scanning my flash drive and portable hard disk.
chatted with sm friends.
and now writing this post.

a problem in C++ operator overloading

suppose there is a class
class xyz
{
private:
int x;
}

in the program suppose we create an object,

class obj;

in our program we can't access the private data member x,
as obj.x.
but when we overload any operator for the class we can use
obj.x to access the private data member x in the function,
used for overloading the operator.
i can't understand how is this possible.
perhaps this is possible as:
the overloading function is a member function,
or a friend function.

my doggie

i luv u,
i luv u,
i luv u,
my small cute friend.
u r black n white.
but we shared, n enjoyed EVERY color of life.
be it:

auspicious red, or
sunkissed gold, or
soothing silver, or
pretty purple, or
blissful blue, or the
forever green.

u were ALWAYS there when NOONE was with me.
n i admit u never ever behaved with me rudely.
bt it was this friend of urs, who sometimes
used to get annoyed.
n u ALWAYS used to forgive me.
i know u did understand EVERYTHING.
today u r not with me here.
i MISS u lot.
i really want to play with u,
in the rains, as we used to, BEFORE.
u r so VALUABLE to me.
do u REMEMBER the path,
which we DISCOVERED on our last walk.
i am sure u do.
and do u REMEMBER that chase.
u were behind a calf.
n i was running behind u.
how i JUMPED n stopped u.
n how, u many times BROKE the chain n ran away.
u used to look behind, to see,
was i BEHIND u or not.
n do u still remember,
we used to play HIDE N SEEK.
n do u remember those innumerable UNIQUE games,
which we INVENTED for ourselves.
i am sure, u MISS those moments, n me.
today we are thosands of kilometers APART.
today, only MEMORIES of u,
my sweet buddy,
r with me.
but even those memories IS a TRUE TREASURE for me,
mon ami la joli.

E=mc²

can you tell me,
how much energy will a small paper clip will produce,
when it is converted into energy completely.
well, for sure, you have to use the famous formula:

E=mc².

okay, try the following webpage and find out, how much energy can you get,
by converting a given "mass" into energy completely.

little bit of Mathematics

take two numbers x and y.
add them.
we get z = x + y
so we have: x, y, x+y
then repeat the process and get:
x, y, x+y, y + x+y, x+y + (y+x+y), y+x+y + (x+y + y+x+y)..........
find ten numbers like that.
now you can find the sum of these numbers very easily.
just get the seventh number in the list.
multiply it by 11, and get the answer.
Example:
1. 12

2. 13

3. 25

4. 38

5. 63

6. 101

7. 164

8. 265

9. 429

10.694
-----------
sum = 1804
-----------

and 164 * 11 = 1804
